Frequently asked questions
About Your Stay
Yes! We know that plans can change. That’s why we offer a one-time free rescheduling per booking, so you can change your stay to a later date without a fee. Please note that the new stay will be subject to the pricing available at the time of your rescheduled visit. We recommend contacting us as soon as possible so we can help you secure a new date that works best for your plans.
INDIVIDUAL ROOM or VACATION HOME CANCELLATION
Confirmed reservations may be cancelled with a minimum of 7 days notice of your scheduled check in time for a full refund. If cancellation is requested less than 7 days from check in, full payment for your reservation is required. Early departures are subject to full payment. Same day cancellation or no-show will result in full room reservation charges, plus a cancellation fee of 5% of the reservation total.
GROUP AND CORPORATE ROOM CANCELLATION
Confirmed group reservations of 4 or less rooms and all corporate/direct bill accounts may be cancelled with a minimum 2 weeks notice of your scheduled check in time for a full refund. Confirmed group reservations of 5 or more rooms or property buyouts may be cancelled with 3 weeks notice. If cancellation is requested less than the required notice, full payment for the reservation is required. Early departures are subject to full reservation payment. Same day cancellations or no-shows will result in full reservation charges, plus a cancellation fee of 5% of the reservation. In the event your reservation can be moved to a new date, full payment will be processed and applied to the new reservation date, supplied at the time of booking. Subsequent cancellations are not eligible for refunds.
We love welcoming furry friends to The Marmalade Motel! Your well-behaved pets are part of the family, and we’re happy to have them join you for your coastal getaway.
A few simple guidelines to keep everyone comfortable:
- Please let us know you’re bringing a pet when booking.
- A pet fee of $25 per stay applies.
- Pets should be kept on a leash while on the property.
- We ask that pets are not left unattended in guest rooms.
- Please clean up after your pet — waste bags are appreciated!
- Any damage caused by pets will be the responsibility of the guest.
- If a pet becomes disruptive or unsafe, we may need to step in to ensure all guests enjoy their stay.

Yes! We strive to make every stay comfortable. While we are a pet-friendly property, we can assign rooms that haven’t hosted pets to help minimize exposure. Our rooms are fragrance-free — we avoid strong air fresheners and cleaning products with heavy scents. All of our bedding is hypoallergenic and feather-free. Please inform us of any allergies when booking so we can prepare your room accordingly.
While we don’t have a full-service restaurant on the property, we make dining easy and convenient for our guests. We offer in-room dining options so you can enjoy fresh, delicious meals from the comfort of your room. Plus, our Marmalade Café is just 15 minutes away in Sheet Harbour, serving locally inspired breakfast, lunch, and specialty coffee — perfect for a casual outing or a quick bite during your stay.

Port Dufferin and the surrounding area are full of coastal charm! Guests can enjoy beach walks, boating, kayaking, and hiking, or explore local shops, craft beer or dining in Sheet Harbour. Seasonal events are also a popular way to experience the Eastern Shore.

Yes! Our hot tub is available for guest use and is the perfect way to relax after a day exploring the Eastern Shore. Children under the age of 16 are not permitted in the hot tub, and no food or drinks are allowed. Please follow the posted safety guidelines, shower before entering, and supervise all guests responsibly. Towels are provided for your convenience.
Yes! Our fire pit is available for guest enjoyment, but fires must be enjoyed responsibly. Guests should check the Nova Scotia Burn Safe website for any fire restrictions before use. During July and August, motel staff will light the fire pit on Friday and Saturday evenings, weather and restriction permitting, so you can enjoy a cozy, safe fire without any hassle.
Absolutely! The Marmalade Motel welcomes families of all sizes. Our rooms are spacious and comfortable, perfect for parents and kids alike. We provide cots (for $15/night) and pack ‘n plays (complimentary) upon request to make sleeping arrangements easy for little ones. While we don’t have a playroom on-site, our property offers lots of outdoor space for playing and the nearby beaches, coastal trails, and local attractions offer plenty of family-friendly fun.
Our team is always happy to provide recommendations and tips to make your stay with children stress-free and memorable.
Yes! We have a small rock beach right on our property that allows for easy water access and a lovely spot to enjoy the coast. Please note that the water can be quite cold, even in the summer, so we recommend being prepared for a refreshing dip. The beach is great for wading, skipping stones, or simply relaxing by the water while taking in the view.
For warmer water we suggest visiting Taylor Head Beach, about 30 mins west of the motel for a perfect beach day!
While we don’t have equipment available on-site, we partner with SUP Mushaboom and Norse Cove Kayaking to provide guests with unforgettable water adventures. We’re happy to help arrange kayak or paddleboard excursions so you can explore the stunning coastline with ease and safety. Just let us know when booking or during your stay, and we’ll take care of the details.
