The Marmalade Motel didn’t start on paper, it started on a beach in Mexico. After decades in hospitality and marketing and a shared craving for something more, we asked ourselves a simple question: what if we actually did this? When COVID shut the world down, we stopped wondering and started moving. We sold the city life in Toronto, packed up the family, and landed in tiny Port Dufferin on Nova Scotia’s rugged Eastern Shore; somewhere we’d barely ever been and didn’t know a soul.
Here, we took a humble 9‑room roadside motel and reimagined it into something bright, playful, and full of character; rooms with private balconies, ocean views, and thoughtful touches that make guests sigh with relief the moment they arrive. Every renovation choice, colour palette, and cozy detail reflects our belief that life’s better when you slow down, breathe in the sea air, and enjoy the view.
Now, the Marmalade Motel is more than a place to sleep, it’s a spot to laugh around the fire pit, watch sunsets from your balcony, explore the Eastern Shore, and make memories that stick long after you’ve packed up to leave.
