Getting Married on Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore

Say "I Do" by the Ocean

Search "wedding venue Nova Scotia" and you'll mostly get vineyards, ballrooms, and golf-course backdrops an hour outside Halifax. Fine venues. Just not always oceanfront ones. If you want your ceremony photos to actually have the Atlantic in them — not a lake, not a harbour in the distance, the open ocean — you're looking at a much shorter list. The Marmalade Motel, on Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore in Port Dufferin, is on it.

The Short Answer

Yes, the Marmalade Motel hosts weddings. It's an oceanfront venue in Port Dufferin, about 90 minutes to two hours from Halifax Stanfield, offering full-service coordination — florals, catering, décor, entertainment — along with on-site rooms and nearby cottages so your wedding party can stay where the wedding happens.

Dates for 2027 and 2028 are currently open for booking.

What Makes an Eastern Shore Wedding Different

The Eastern Shore isn't the part of Nova Scotia most wedding parties think of first — that's usually the South Shore or Cape Breton. Which is exactly the appeal. Fewer other weddings competing for the same weekend in the same location. No tour buses in your ceremony photos. Just a quieter stretch of coastline, rocky headlands, and the kind of light that makes a sunset ceremony look like it was staged by a movie crew (it wasn't — that's just what happens here most evenings).

What You're Actually Booking

This isn't a "rent a hall and bring in your own everything" situation. The Marmalade's wedding package is full-service: florals, cuisine, décor, and entertainment are coordinated for you, with the ocean doing most of the heavy lifting as a backdrop. A downloadable wedding brochure walks through the details if you want the full breakdown before reaching out.

Practically, here's what that tends to mean for a wedding weekend:

  • The ceremony and reception space is oceanfront, built around those panoramic views rather than working around them.

  • On-site rooms and cottages mean your wedding party doesn't need a separate hotel block twenty minutes away — everyone can walk from getting-ready to ceremony to reception to bed.

  • A full property buyout is an option, not just for the ceremony but for the whole weekend, if you want your wedding to feel like a private island takeover rather than a public venue rental.

  • The team handles logistics, so you're not simultaneously the bride and the wedding day project manager.

2027 and 2028 Dates Are Open

If you're the type to book two summers out — and a lot of Eastern Shore couples are, since the good weekends go early — 2027 and 2028 dates are open now. Given how few true oceanfront venues exist on this stretch of coast, the popular summer Saturdays won't stay open long once word gets out.

Real Weddings, Already Happened Here

We love hearing from our guests, and one of our favourite notes came from a family who booked the property for a sister's wedding — the kind of comment that mentioned the view, the rooms, and hosts who made the day feel personal rather than transactional. That's the experience the venue is built around: an owner-operated property where Neil and Cheryl are actually the ones you're talking to, not a corporate events coordinator reading from a script.

FAQ: Weddings at the Marmalade Motel

Does the Marmalade Motel host weddings?

Yes. It's an oceanfront wedding venue in Port Dufferin, Nova Scotia, offering full-service coordination including florals, catering, décor, and entertainment.

Can our wedding party stay on-site?

Yes — the property has rooms and private cottages nearby, so a wedding party can stay where the ceremony and reception happen rather than commuting from a separate hotel.

Can we book the entire property for our wedding weekend?

A full property buyout is available for weddings, giving you exclusive use of the rooms, cottages, and grounds rather than sharing the property with unrelated guests.

How many guests can the venue accommodate?

Our max venue capacity is 40 people.  The motel and cottages combined can sleep up to 36 people based on double occupancy.  Reach out directly with your guest count and they'll do their best to accommodate.

How far in advance should we book, especially for 2027 or 2028?

As early as possible. Summer Saturday dates on the Eastern Shore are limited, and 2027/2028 dates are open now.

What's the best time of year for an oceanfront wedding here?

Summer and early fall offer the most reliable weather and the longest golden-hour window for ceremony photos, though the venue can discuss options across seasons.

The Bottom Line

If you want ocean in your wedding photos — not a lake, not a bay, the actual Atlantic — and you'd rather your wedding weekend feel like a private coastal takeover than a rental hall with a view, get in touch about your date.

2027 and 2028 are open. The tide doesn't wait, and honestly, neither does the good calendar.
